We experienced this 9 years ago, and just returned from a family vacation to Alaska and took all 10 of us on the 5 glacier/salmon feast at the Taku Lodge. In winter, the visitor center is open Friday-Sunday from 10am to 4pm and closed on federal holidays. I'm still quite impressed that you were willing to take your shoes off and walk across sawmill creek barefoot in that ice cold water.
