I would say that hospitality and friendliness could be improved, but everything was clean. As a more modest "minshuku," however, Hanaya amply lived up to reasonable expectations. We stayed here and were greatly pleased with our Ryokan. Now, a couple of things people commented on are true: there are no private bathrooms -there are showercubicles or communal hottubs-, you make your own (futon)bed, and dinner and breakfast are served at set times and are 'eat what you're served'style.
